Leisure Definition - Michael McBride

This is the picture I chose that best represents what I consider leisure time. This is a picture of kids playing pick-up hockey on an outdoor sheet of ice in what looks to be a park or someone's backyard. This picture represents my vision of leisure because Hockey is something that I have a strong passion for, but whereas playing organized hockey on a team is very structured, the hockey seen in this picture is not structured at all. Although these kids are exerting themselves, they are not answering to any coaches, referees, parents, or a scoreboard. They're sole purpose of playing outside is for the enjoyment of the game and the outdoors. This picture can very well sum up my definition of leisure which is productive behavior solely for the joyment of the individual. Playing outdoor hockey is something I have done since I was a little kid and it is a great leisure activity because it keeps you from being lazy but at the same time no one is thinking about the pressures of everyday life. I believe that this picture really captures the essence of what I believe to be the definition of leisure.
