The Ultimate Therapy
We live in times where we spend most of our time working, without much time to sit back and relax. If we don’t have to work, somehow other responsibilities get in our way of fully enjoying that time off. So wouldn’t it be great to just find a place where one could enjoy various forms of leisure without having to travel far from home? Well, the people from the O’Hare area are pretty lucky to actually have something like that in their nearby community. What is this great place you ask? Muvico Rosemont 18 located in Rosemont (obviously) is a movie theater plus so much more! Along with California and Maryland, Illinois is one of the three states that are lucky enough to ‘host’ one of Muvico’s theaters; the other ten are all located in Florida. Why choose Illinois as a place to put one of your theaters? Who knows… possibly because it’s such an amazing state? Yes, that definitely has to be the answer. (Let’s leave it at that.)
One of Muvico’s managers was nice enough to give me a tour around the whole place. I’m not going to lie; I was stoked about finally getting to see the VIP 21+ area. Yes, that’s right, there is a VIP section. The area has its own entrance and is rather fancy. After being taken upstairs by the escalator, you are greeted by pure greatness. The bar and restaurant are top notch. Before seeing the restaurant I pictured it to be way smaller, but to my surprise – I was completely wrong; the place looks huge. And you can overlook the people coming in downstairs, which I find kind of cool since I like to watch people (yes, I know that I’m weird). There’s also a concession stand for those who don’t plan on eating at the restaurant. The VIP section includes access to two balcony seated theaters and one all-VIP theater. I thought that the seating in the regular theaters was super comfortable, but the VIP is beyond amazing. What can be better than sitting or even lying on a couch, eating free popcorn, and watching a movie on a gigantic screen? Not much.
The regular costumer area is beautiful too. In fact, the whole theater is decorated in a fantastic way and the detail put into some of the decorating is something that you wouldn’t expect to see in a movie theater. The facility consists of 18 theaters equipped with Sony 4K high definition projection and the widest and most comfortable seats (I can’t stress this enough), children’s playroom, rooms to rent for various events, game room and arcade, and a pretty great concession menu.
If you don’t want your children annoying you while you watch a movie, you can drop them off at the playroom where they can play with other children, work on crafts, or even watch a movie themselves. The game room is equipped with countless TVs and game systems, which include the Wii, Xbox, PlayStation, and others. The bathrooms are also very nice and unlike in other movie theaters, there’s never any wait because of their spaciousness.
The service in the facility is great. Although ticket sales are quick, you can purchase your tickets at the self service machines located on the opposite side of the lobby. The concession stand has pretty great service too. The employees are actually too good at what they do; I can’t leave the counter without agreeing to have my order upgraded to a bigger size. My favorite aspect of the business (well, 2nd favorite… the seats are still number 1) is the valet parking, which is free for the VIP customers. Although I’m too cheap to take advantage of the perk, I think that it’s a great idea. It’s actually surprising to see the amount of people who are too lazy to walk to/from their cars. Another great thing about the facility is that it has FREE parking. Amazing, right?
Synopsis
Muvico Rosemont 18 is practically one of the best movie theaters that I have ever been to. I actually don’t remember the last time that I have gone anywhere else; this place is too great to abandon. And as lame as it may sound, I’m actually looking forward to turning 21 and being able to take advantage of the VIP services. For me, Muvico is the ultimate therapeutic recreation service. For someone who can’t take long vacations, this is a great place to “run” away to and relax. I feel like Muvico creates an environment in which a person can forget about their daily problems and live in the moment, whether it’s by watching a movie, eating dinner, socializing with a couple of friends at the bar, playing games, or getting away from your kids. I feel like Muvico would be a great place to work at. The atmosphere created by all the employees makes you feel like you’re right at home (minus the stress of course.) The manager, whose name I bluntly forgot, was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met and he truly seemed sincere when he said that he loves his job. I think that that we definitely need more agency’s similar to Muvico. People need places where they can relax and others need places where they can work and enjoy themselves at the same time. So why not kill two birds with one stone by creating something that gives us both? Sounds like a great idea? I think so.

Agnes,
ReplyDeleteMuvico is quite the place. It makes me want to go there. As I look over your post you needed to include a couple of things:
1 The agencies definition of leisure: what is the benefit that they feel that they meet or provide for the population that they serve...
2. How is muvico a theraputic recreation provider outside of just providing an avenue for escape? Look at pages 238 - 249 in the book and you will gain a better understanding of what a TR or theraputic recreation is all about.
Otherwise... good job! This seemed like a fun thing for you.
